Dentistry in Redwood City
Thank you for your interest in our Endodontic (root canal) practice. Our office is located one block away from the Oracle Headquarters building. Built next to one of the many Redwood Shores lagoons, the office is designed to provide patients a relaxing view of the lagoon and seasonal birds.
At Redwood Shores Endodontics, we understand the importance of having a dental practice that provides you with exceptional care. Our philosophy is to maintain the natural tooth as long as possible. We devote our practice to saving teeth that would otherwise be extracted due to extensive decay, fracture or infection. The preservation of the natural tooth is highly valuable. No tooth will be undertaken for treatment unless we believe that there is a very good chance for a successful outcome. Our staff is committed to serving each and every patient with attentive care and takes every effort to make your experience as pleasant as possible.
When do I need an Endodontist?
While circumstances may vary, your general dentist may refer you to an Endodontist if any of the following situations arise:
- Tooth pain:
- Sharp pain when biting down on food.
- Lingering pain after eating hot and/or cold foods.
- Swelling of the gum and is sensitive to touch
- Dull ache and pressure when the teeth come together
- The tooth to be treated has curved, calcified or blocked canals. It is difficult for him or her to provide you the best possible treatment.
- There is uncertainty of which tooth requires treatment.
- The tooth had a prior root canal treatment that has failed to properly heal or has been inadequately treated.
- Prior treatment of the tooth has resulted in broken instruments (files) that was left behind in the canal.
- The tooth is cracked or damaged due to facial trauma.
- The affected tooth has excessive decay, abscess or resorption.
- The tooth or the bone supporting the tooth requires microsurgery.

Specialized Equipment
Digital Radiography (X-rays)
While use of traditional, small x-ray film was a necessity in the past, our office is equipped with modern digital x-ray equipment. Your digital x-rays will be evaluated on a high-resolution digital screen. Use of digital x-ray equipment results in several benefits to our patients:
- The tooth can be x-rayed using significantly less radiation. Each digital x-ray requires approximately 1/10th of the radiation exposure as a traditional dental x-ray.
- Use of digital x-ray technology provides significantly higher resolution than traditional methods, resulting in improved diagnostic accuracy.
- By enlarging and enhancing the x-ray image, the doctor can better explain to you exactly the problem and how to treat the tooth to maximize the likelihood of saving it.
- Your x-rays are stored indefinitely on our secured server. Should you require additional treatment at a later date, we can use these x-rays to judge the progression of any additional decay or infection.
Surgical Microscopes and Endoscopes
- Our office is also equipped with surgical microscopes and digital endoscope equipment to help Dr. Huynh diagnose and treat exceptionally difficult cases.
- These tools aid Dr. Huynh in locating calcified or blocked canals, detecting micro-fractures of the tooth, removing broken instruments from the canal and detecting the presence of perforation or resorption of the internal surface of the tooth. Thus, using this advanced equipment during treatment of these conditions will greatly increase the success rate for maintaining the tooth.
Cone Bean Computerized Tomography (CBCT)
- At Redwood Shores Endodontics, we are believers that we can't fix what we can't see. By implementing a 3-D Cone Beam CT (CBCT) we are able to produce the highest resolution imaging to far better diagnose and treat patients.
- Cone beam CT is different from typical dental X-rays which produce 2-D pictures. 3-D cone beam images provide more complete, accurate, and clear visual images with minimal radiation. 3-D cone beam images can be duplicated and are always stored in case they are needed in the future.
- Cone Beam CT opens up an incredible world of sight for far better patient diagnostic capabilities and endodontic services. We witness amazing anatomical detail and viewing capabilities with powerful, focused-field, highres, 3D images, and unprecedented x-ray views of the oral cavity.
- With a CBCT scan you can:
- See lesions and situations not evident otherwise
- View previously unseen anatomical detail to diagnose more accurately and treat with confidence
- Locate previously unseen canals of a tooth and the source of an infection
